SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for directing consistent, effective food safety and quality programs at company-owned that manufacture products for Tyson Fresh Meats Beef Group. Responsibilities include overseeing implementation of Food Safety & Quality Assurance policies and programs, development, implementation and verification of plant-based Food Safety, Animal Well-Being and Quality System programs and evaluating progress and status of food safety and quality programs within plants on an on-going basis. This position must be interactive and proactive in prescribing solutions for issue resolution, such as preparing, evaluating and revising FSQA policies and procedures, collaborating both internal and external to enact and implement necessary quality improvement and food safety programs in divisional plants and corporate wide as well. This requires knowledge of evaluating data trends in quality deviations, monitoring consumer complaints, administering product specifications, and providing product/process support services necessary to quality and food safety applications. Responsibilities include: reviewing and ensuring compliance of all applicable government food regulations to include directing plant procedures, aid in development of plant corrective actions, coordination of plant-based regulatory responses, collaboration and communications with Corporate FSQA, Regulatory, Legal, HR and Executive, and working directly with USDA officials at various levels from plant-site to Washington DC.

Other duties include preparing, distributing, and revising FSQA procedures within beef harvest and processing facilities, evaluating information and making decisions to ship or hold products, whether to initiate a recall or withholding action, and coordinate such actions as necessary. Other responsibilities include consultation and communication with internal and external customers on specification requirements, questions, and/or concerns; communicate and collaborate across company divisions and groups on issues as the arise, including Operations, Sales, Marketing, Logistics, Scheduling, HR, Legal, and Technical managers, Animal Well-Being on all current critical situations and opportunities; recruiting, overseeing and approving entry level recruits, intra-departmental transfers, and promotions in the FSQA departments [both corporate and plants]. This position is responsible for administering the budget for FSQA Fresh Meats group, which is in excess of 15 million dollars.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in a discipline directly related to the job or equivalent experience preferred

Experience: 10+ years of industry experience with 8+ years of FSQA Leadership experience preferred

Computer Skills: Requires standard computer skills. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Special Skills: Requires fluency in HACCP and SSOP regulations, a complete understanding of the products and specifications of the products within their assigned area as well as the processes used to deliver those products; must be systems oriented and process improvement driven and be able to utilize Statistical Process Control and other data platforms; knowledge of Quality Systems to create processes to deliver the product and food safety systems.

Supervisory: This position is responsible for managing several groups of team members who perform diverse tasks and activities both on-site and off-site.

Travel: 15 or more trips per year.
